Shipping · Updated 2 May 2026

From our hands to yours, insured every step.

Every stone leaves our Eheliyagoda atelier sealed, insured for full declared value, and tracked door to door. Below is how, when, and what to expect at the other end.

Couriers we use

We choose the courier per shipment based on destination, declared value, and your preference. Default selection logic:

  • FedEx Priority Express — primary courier worldwide for stones under USD 25,000.
  • DHL Express Worldwide — alternate to FedEx; preferred for the EU and the Middle East.
  • Malca-Amit — specialist secured logistics for stones above USD 25,000 and any client-requested escort or vault-to-vault transfer.

For very high-value or unusual lots, we can also arrange in-person handover at major trade hubs (Geneva, Hong Kong, Dubai, Bangkok). Ask us.

Transit times

From the date funds clear and the stone is laboratory-ready:

  • Asia & Middle East — 2 to 4 business days door to door.
  • Europe & UK — 3 to 5 business days.
  • North America — 3 to 6 business days.
  • Australia, NZ, South America, Africa — 5 to 8 business days.

Customs clearance in your country can add 1 to 5 days, especially for first-time importers or for stones above USD 50,000. We provide every document the customs broker needs and respond to broker emails within hours.

Insurance

Every shipment is insured for the full declared value, with a per-package limit honoured by the courier and our own all-risks gem-trade policy stacked on top where required. Cover runs from the moment the parcel leaves our atelier until it is signed for at the delivery address.

Insurance is included in the price for orders shipped at our standard quoted rates. For special arrangements (split shipments, third-party freight, high-value escort), we will quote insurance separately.

Customs and duties

Sri Lanka exports gemstones under licence from the National Gem and Jewellery Authority. We attach to every shipment:

  • Commercial invoice with full declared value (we never under-declare).
  • Certificate of origin.
  • Independent laboratory report (GIA / GRS / SSEF).
  • NGJA export licence reference.
  • Airway bill and insurance certificate.

Import duty, VAT, GST, sales tax, broker fees, and any other charge applied at destination are your responsibility. Rates vary by country and tariff classification. Common reference points:

  • USA — loose unmounted gemstones typically duty-free; state sales tax may apply on import.
  • UK — VAT at the prevailing rate plus a small import handling fee.
  • EU — VAT at the rate of the destination country.
  • UAE, Singapore, Hong Kong — usually duty- and VAT-free for loose stones.

If you are unsure what your country will charge, tell us before we ship and we will help you confirm with a local broker.

Delivery and signature

Every parcel ships with adult signature required. The courier will not leave it at the door, in a mailroom, or with a neighbour without your written instruction. If no one is at the address, the courier holds the parcel at the nearest secure facility for 5 to 10 business days for collection.

For very high-value parcels, we recommend you nominate a secure delivery point — a bank vault address, an atelier, or a registered jeweller. We can coordinate directly with that recipient on your behalf.

Tracking

Within hours of dispatch you receive an email and a WhatsApp message containing:

  • Courier name and tracking number.
  • Direct tracking URL.
  • Expected delivery window in your local time zone.
  • Customs broker contact, where one is involved.

If a tracking event looks unusual to us, we will reach out to you and to the courier proactively.

Restricted countries

We currently do not ship to countries under active UN, EU, US (OFAC), or UK sanctions, or to addresses we cannot insure. If you live or operate in a restricted region and would like to buy, write to us — in many cases we can arrange handover at a third-country trade hub.

Lost or damaged shipments

If a parcel is lost, delayed beyond reasonable bounds, or arrives with seal tampering, do not open it further. Photograph the packaging, leave it sealed, and contact us within 24 hours of delivery (or the expected delivery date, if it never arrived). We file the courier and insurance claim, keep you informed in writing, and either resend a comparable stone or refund in full — your choice.

Returns

Returns are governed by our Terms of Sale, section "Inspection and refund": a 7-day inspection window from delivery, full refund where a second laboratory disagrees with our spec, return shipping at our cost in that case. For any other return reason within the 7 days, the stone must arrive back in original condition with all paperwork; shipping is yours.

Pack returns in the original sealed pouch and case. Use only FedEx, DHL, or Malca-Amit with full declared-value insurance and signature on delivery. Do not use postal services for return shipping.

One last thing. We have shipped to over 50 countries and have not lost a stone in transit since 2018. The system above is what makes that possible — please follow it, especially the signature step at delivery.
